Vacation Photo Shoot in Tulum with Flytographer

As I mentioned a few days ago, Sam & I did a Flytographer photo shoot during our stay in Tulum as a way to more creatively capture our vacation. Now that I’ve gotten the photos back from our photographer, I am excited to share our experience along with a few of our favorite shots!

I first heard about Flytographer from my coworker Sara, an accomplished and social media savvy traveler. Once she showed the company to me, I was hooked. I loved this idea. What a great and unique way to capture some treasured moments from your vacation! I immediately started looking at the portfolios of their photographers and following FLytographer’s instagram. Every time I looked at their photos, I felt inspired to travel with my partner. So when I noticed that there were Cancun-based photographers, I was ready to book one.

From my first interaction with Tedi, my shoot manager, I was impressed with the level of service Flytographer provided. Tedi was prompt, professional and helpful. She explained the process a little bit further and sent me examples of their packages and portfolios of the photographers we could select.

I submitted my initial deposit quickly, and Tedi got back to me right away with the next step of submitting a shot request form. It basically asks questions about our preferred photo style, what we want the day to feel like, more about us as a couple, what we’re hoping to capture, etc. This way, we could get matched up with one of the photographers who would be a good fit for us.

We got paired with Monica, who actually had a cat named Loki just like us! I knew she was the right match then & there. A few weeks before the shoot, Tedi sent me all the details of our experience, like the times, location for meeting Monica, and what to plan for.

Monica texted and emailed me the night before the shoot because she was worried about potentially adverse weather. We quickly came up with a contingency plan and we were looking forward to meeting with her the next day. On the day of, everything went off without a hitch — the sun was shining, the breeze was blowing and there were no rain clouds in sight. It seemed like a mini miracle!

Monica arrived at our hotel right on time and we briefly introduced ourselves. We got started with photos on the beach which was just outside of our front door. Sam & I have never done a professional photo shoot before so we were a little awkward about it at first. But Monica gave us good and clear directions and made us feel really comfortable.

We started to warm up to the process as the day went along. She had us walk in the waves, hold hands in the sand and pose near our beach hotel. Then we went to another location further down the beach, which had a great sunset view and rocky scenery. We did an outfit change in the middle to mix up the colors a bit. We ended the shoot sipping on cocktails at El Pez, where she snapped a few pictures of us in a more natural setting.

I was surprised by how much fun we had together! I think Sam felt pretty awkward about the whole thing, but he did a great job making me laugh and giggle as we posed for Monica. In the end, I think he had fun seeing me have fun. The hour and half with Monica went by really quickly and we parted ways as she returned back to Cancun.

Only a few days after our shoot, we had the photos sent to us via email by Tedi. I was impressed with how quickly they arrived. Paging through the stills with Sam, we were so happy with the results! Monica did an amazing job and we’re both so excited to share our favorites with family and friends. They look amazing!

Overall, I was very happy with my experience with Flytographer and I would definitely use their services again in another destination! I think this would be so much fun for honeymoon photos or a family vacation. I just wish we had known about this on our family trip to Greece last year. This would have been a perfect retirement gift for our dad.
