Day Trip to Key West

After nearly 25 years of coming to Florida for spring vacation, my family has never been to Key West! One of the more famous Florida destinations, we decided that this year would be the year we finally made it down to the southernmost part of the United States.

There are many perks to a member of your family owning their own plane, but quick day trips is definitely one of them. The drive from Naples to Key West would be nearly 4 hours, but a quick flight of 30 minutes makes it a much easier destination to visit! We left Naples around lunchtime on Friday and came back after sunset the same day. Quick and painless!

My dad had a sailing buddy in Key West who showed us around and took us to his favorite local joints. We ate lots of fresh seafood, took a picture by the southernmost point sign, explored the Duval Street shops, ate Key Lime pie and took in the old Florida architecture.

It was a quick visit, but we had a ton of fun exploring as a family. It’s not as easy to get the 5 of us together now with my sister out in Denver, and even harder to convince my grandpa to come. But we managed to do it for Key West, and it turned out to be a super fun afternoon of walking around, eating and laughing.
