2015 Travel Goals: 12 Trips in 12 Months

12 trips in 12 months

Travel goals are a real thing. If you don’t set them, you’ll never go. It’s as simple as that. It’s too easy to get settled in the routine of work, weekends, saving money, restaurants and Netflix. That is pretty much exactly what my years in 2012 and 2013 looked like, and I didn’t like it. But, if you set your mind to a goal and commit yourself to doing it, you will do it. Again, it’s as simple as that. I know it because I’ve lived it! So for 2015, I am setting myself an ambitious travel goal. I want to go on 12 trips in 12 months.  In 2014, I knew I wanted to take a trip. A big one! I had been saving up for nearly 3 years, but wasn’t really saving up for anything besides “my future”. Ahhh the ambiguous “future”. What is that? What will I use the money for in that mysterious time and space? I had no idea, and no real reason to be holding on to so much money.

So I pulled the trigger and decided to spend half of my savings on the trip of my dreams. When else in my life was I going to do something so reckless and foolhardy? I quit a job that I didn’t love and did something that I did love. And it was one of the best decisions I made in 2014, if not in all the years since college. I took time to celebrate myself and to do something selfish and awesome. I have no regrets and it helped land me the job of my dreams at Greenheart Travel.

For 2015, I don’t have the openness in my schedule to go on a 90 day adventure, especially since I actually like my job and don’t want to quit it to travel. But that is the joy of working for a travel company– traveling is encouraged! I don’t have a ton of holidays or vacations saved up yet (since I just started), but I still wanted to set an attainable travel goal.

So, I plan to take 12 trips in 12 months, most of them only long weekends to different places around the US. This is totally do-able! I looked at my schedule and noticed that I could take off one Friday or Monday a month and still have a few vacation days saved up by the end of the year. Especially considering that Greenheart Travel gives us all those random holidays off (MLK Day, Columbus Day, Presidents Day), I had three day weekends already built into my schedule! I planned trips on all of those weekends to capitalize on those bonus holidays.

On the books right now, I’ve got 6 trips planned! I’m feeling so proud of myself. 2015 is really shaping up to be a great year! And I’m purchasing all my flights, hotels, restaurants and outings on airline miles cards (I have one for Southwest, one for Delta and one for American Airlines) so I hope to rack up the points which I can use to pay for the other 6 trips later in the year! Here are my 2015 trips so far:

January- Kansas City, Missouri to visit a friend

February– Breckenridge, Colorado for a family ski trip

March– Boston, Massachusetts for the Women in Travel Summit

April – Austin, Texas for a work retreat

April- Naples, Florida for a family Easter vacation

May– Nashville, Tennessee for a bachelorette party

June– Columbus, Ohio for a wedding

I am feeling so excited about the prospects of this challenge. Even though I’m already half way to my goal, I can’t wait to see what the second half of the year holds for me. The world is a big place, and the US is only a small corner of it. I wonder where I will wind up! Follow all of my journeys on the blog, as well as on Instagram. I’ll be tagging all my travel posts with #12tripsin12months so you can see my progress the whole way! Here’s to a year of long weekends traveling!
