In order to prepare for the amazing 9 day climb that I am about to embark on, I have been working out and mentally preparing myself for Kilimanjaro. In the 3 months beforehand, I have been running about 4 days a week, usually 3-4 miles a day. I have also been attending fitness classes that focus on muscle growth and toning. Lots of squats and dead lifts to prepare my muscles. I have been reading that 90% of climbing is staying mentally tough. Once you’re on the mountain, the elements start to wear on you. From sleeping in a tent everyday, to eating foreign food to walking for 8 hours a day, it all just weighs heavily on a person’s spirit. So I am trying to get into the mentality of living on a mountain and think positively and with motivation. I hope all this preparation will help me get to the summit!
