Welcome to my travel adventures!

Hi! I’m Megan Arzbaecher – the woman behind Traverse Blog

I am a travel and food obsessed Midwesterner living in Chicago and dreaming of the world. I am passionate about sustainable & ethical travel, meeting new people, creating unique memories and eating delicious local cuisine!

At only 27 years old, I am lucky to have traveled quite a bit — 6 continents, 41 countries and countless cities. Since I was young, I’ve had a sense of adventure and desire to explore the world. And now as an adult, I am a full-fledged travel junkie!

I work full-time as a program manager for Greenheart Travel, a cultural exchange non-profit, and even though I spend most of my days in an office setting, I am committed to integrating my travels into every aspect of my life. From trying new foods to listening to international podcasts, I make new experiences a part of my daily routine. And once I’ve saved up enough vacation days, I am quickly headed off to new international and domestic destinations!

The world is a vast and exciting place with an endless array of countries and cultures to explore. Each year, the list of places I’ve been (and want to go to) continues to grow! The map below shows all the countries I’ve visited so far in blue, and I can’t wait to expand out even further.

One of the things I love most about traveling (and just life in general) is trying new food. I believe that food unites people around the world and is a universal way for humans to express their individual culture and identity. I grew up in a family of eaters, which sparked my initial love of food. Since growing into a adulthood, I learned how to cook and the importance of sustainable and ethical food production. My love and appreciation of good food runs deep and I frequently explore local restaurants in any new place I visit.

Here is just a sampling of some of my favorite mealtime experiences:
